Hour 22 - Glad Press-and-Seal

{flv}construction/hour022{/flv}

This is going to seem like a paid endorsement for Glad Press-and-Seal, but I assure you it is definitely unpaid! Money mouth

As I was saying in my previous post, I had intended to cover the canopy frame area with Saran Wrap to provide a barrier between the aircraft structure and the two part foam.  My thought was that it would provide an easy way for me to remove the frame when I was all done sanding and fiberglassing.  In theory, the Saran Wrap would keep everything from sticking together, but is thin enough to allow the foam to conform to the proper shape.

Well as most of you already know, Saran Wrap is very good at sticking to itself, but not very good at all of sticking to anything else!  So you usually end up with a nice wadded ball of plastic before you get a chance to try and apply it to anything.

So I had seen the ads for Glad Press-and-Seal, and it seemed like it might be a good solution for what I was trying to do.  As it turns out, it was absulutely the perfect solution!  It's just thin enough to allow you to smooth it into the compound curves, and tacky enough to hold, but still allow you to smooth out any wrinkles.  After using it, I think it could be one of the greatest innovations for Aircraft Homebuilders since QAC went out of business.

Basically, if you're looking for a great (cheap) barrier, or perhaps even a mold release agent, you might want to give it a try.  I may be the first homebuilder to use the stuff, so if others start jumping on the bandwagon, just remember. . . You saw it here first!  (Unless, of course, you saw it somewhere else!) Embarassed

As always, I invite your comments below, or in the forum!
