Issue 166

Hey Member,
In the last issue I mentioned that Q-talk (at least in its current form and frequency) will be going away in January 2015. With that being said I still have two major projects going on that are Q related!

Mad Scientist

The first project is a rewrite of the Q-200 LS1 Construction plans. Sam Hoskins took very good notes (and photos) during the rebuild of his LS1 canard, and I am diligently incorporating his notes into our first draft. I will send that back to Sam for revisions soon, and we hope to have a finished product to bring to FOD this year. (Just a few short weeks away.)

The second big project is documentation of all of the Q1's metal parts. Wayne Bressler was kind enough to ship all of his Q1 kit parts to me, and I have been chipping away at their documentation ever since. When completed, I'm sure FLAPS will be interested in having a set of the Solid Works drawings to supply parts to the community.

In addition, I am actively testing some software upgrades and actively seeking better web hosting. I hope to have a new and improved version of the QBA website up and running (including the return of the forum) in the first Quarter of 2015 . . . So stay tuned.

In the future, your $20 annual QBA membership will grant you access to the entire newsletter archive, and any new tools we develop. I envision the site being more "social," with easy methods to share videos, pictures, and text instantaneously! I am envisioning the Q-list on steroids, and I invite your suggestions!

If you have any questions, please reply to this e-mail, and I will do my best to answer them. In the meantime enjoy this issue.

Remember, "Together we build better planes," and newsletters!
But . . . It certainly takes a village!

Warm regards,
Dan Yager

I Thought Better Of It

In Sam Hoskins' most recent blog post his professionalism was greater than his enthusiasm . . . so I am adding his blog post to the SAFETY section of the website! Good decision making is a cornerstone of SAFETY . . . and sometimes that means staying on the ground.

Composite Build Off Anyone?

Imraan also suggested that we hold a composite building competition at FOD this year. The idea is for a bunch of people to build the "confidence layup" shown in the plans, then test them to destruction. May the best builder win!
