Q-talk 104 - Fit to be Tied

One thing I have added to my pre-flight checklist, believe it or not, is to tuck the loops and ends my shoelaces inside my shoes. After shifting my feet during a flight, I realized I had somehow hooked my shoelace on the lead elevator counterweight. My foot was literally tied in place. After a few tense moments of squirming, struggling and ultimately unbuckling my seatbelt to reach my laces, I was finally able to untie my shoe and regain the use the rudder and elevator again.

If you installed your counterweight on the passenger side of the plane, you should ask your passengers to be aware of the potential problem so you do not repeat my adventure.
