Q-200 Metal Parts Update

Before taking over as editor for the Quickie Builders Association, I was creating Solid Works drawings for all the metal parts for my Q-200. I thought that if I made accurate drawings of the parts as I removed them from my plane, that I could have replacements made if I removed anything that I didn’t think was airworthy.

Even before I finished the drawings I began putting out feelers to see if anyone would be willing to manufacture aircraft parts if I needed them and I came across Dave Hertner who is the President of Effectus Aeroproducts Inc. based in Ontario Canada.

Dave’s first product was a redesign of the rudder pedals for the Van’s RV-10 that he is currently building. After 15 iterations he had a working prototype to send to manufacturing, and this initial product allowed him to cut his teeth in the business of manufacturing accessories for the kit aircraft market. Through the success of that first product, Dave developed a relationship with Cleveland Tools who currently distributes his products.

He now manufactures additional parts for Cleveland Tools, and this growth has allowed himto be able toquote and manufacture components for other OEM kit makers. When he saw through the Quickie Builders Association that interest was still strong in the Quickie designs, he decided to return my e-mails.

Dave offered to make the parts for me, but to help keep costs down, offered to make several sets to other builders who might be interested. Over the last few months I’ve been working more directly with Dave to help clarify some of my drawings, and get quotes for manufacturing multiple sets of Q-200 parts.

The 34 parts that he has offered to manufacture for us are as follows:

As you can see, a few of the parts that are listed were originally fabricated by the builder. So this alone represents a time savings when putting together your plane.

As stated before, the final price will depend on the quantities ordered but the prices will break down as follows:

10 kits – US $1495.00 each
20 kits – US $1295.00 each
30 kits – US $1125.00 each
40 kits – US $1095.00 each
50 kits – US $1060.00 each

To get a better idea of the actual demand for the kits, Dave is taking deposits for the parts until February 26th, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. At that point, the number of kits ordered will determine the final price, and all depositors will be notified of the final price. Any remaining balance will be paid before the kits are shipped to individual builders.

To secure a set of parts you will need to send a signed purchase order and liability waiver along with a certified check or money order for $725 made out to “Effectus AeroProducts Inc.” The specific terms of the agreement can be seen by clicking the link below. (You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the agreement.)

I also just wanted to point out that I’m not making any money from this endevour. However, if I get a chance to buy a set of parts for my own plane, I’ll be very happy. I hope this opportunity makes you happy too! Wink This might help many of you complete those projects that have been sitting out in the garage for so long!
