Hello Jim!!!
Yes you can get a new one ... and from threre vendors.
Airplane Plastics, which is close to Dayton OH ... look for there ad in
Sport Aviation made one fore me. At my request they shiped it in a wooden
crate
(but i paid extra for it). They also sent me samples of of the different
density
Plastics I could pick from. I wanted the shade of gray smoked which is still
legal
on a certified airplane. the cost was appx $400.00 pluss shipping. They
have a huge collection of forms for different canopies which they blow. They
would have
made the canopy more to my spec if I wanted, but at the time I asked for the
stock configeration. I was considered using a Starlite Canopy because it
seemed a little taller. The workmanship was great! it came pretrimed and sanded;
shiped with a protective covering inside and out. Nice people and a perfect
canopy. There was an
article on them in Sport Aviation less than a decade ago. CK their magazine
index on the EAA member site. .... If I were to venture a guess, I would say
that Aircraft Spruce was marketing Airplane Plastics canopies.
But that may not be entirely true. There is another guy out there, Todd
Silver (down in FL) who descided to make his own canopy for his long EZ. It
took
him several attempts but he finally figured it out. Now he will make almost
anything for you ...
and for a lot less than AS or APP. If you have one for him to copy, all the
better.

ck Todds prices. I know for a fact that Airplane Plastics makes the canopies
for
the RV series. How? you ask. I had to send a check to the RV people before
Airplane Plastics would ship the RV-8 canopy I bought (for $800.00) to me. It
is a marketing agreement problem (there was a similar deal involved, for a
Cozy mkIV canopy as well ... I guess APP now mais a check to AP instead of Nat
Puffer now a days). Todd sells the tinted RV-8 canopy he makes for $400.00!
Half what I paid ... and there is even a satiffied customer on Todds web page.
I dont think Todd was making canopies when I bought the two I mentioned, but
I would give his a serious look today.
OK ... sure hope ya dont feel like you had to pay a Dollar for my two cents
worth.
