I`m new in the list. I`m from Argentina and I`m planing to build a Q1.
I want to know if I have to use the carbon fiber spar for the LS-1 canard, or
I can use the airfoil shape of the LS 1 with the construction techniques of the
old canard.
Thanks,
Diego del Alamo

No. You can not use the old style UNI glass spar caps with the LS-1 canard.
The LS-1 is soo much thinner than the old GU' that it would take far too
much glass to be strong enough and still weigh a reasonable amount. This is
why they went to the carbon fiber spar. If you really want the LS-1 you
could build Allan Thayer's version or get new carbon fiber spars fron Peter
Harris (both on the list I think).

You are treading into untested aeronautical engineering, I for one don't
mind trying many new ideas if fact come up with many of my own. But would
not change the spar type without the blessing of the right engineer that has
run the examples of what you want to do Be very careful

Hi Diego,

I would use the Dragonfly or LongEZ type of spar to build an LS-1
canard, a chanel or box type.

If you are not going to use the canard as a landing gear then your
idea might be OK.

What type of landing gear will you use?

Thanks
