I have seen several types of cowling intake designs, mine has the smiley under the spinner, but that makes it hard to duct up to the cylinders. What has proven to work best?

Mine is the same. I just spent several hours taxiing around the airport, and my heat never made it past the bottom of the green arcs on all my gauges. The way mine is, The air is split 40% goes straight down through the Oil Cooler, the other 60% goes up over the top of the Cylinder heads then back down. With 1600 hours (according to the builder) it never overheated.
It is said that the future is always born in pain. The history of war is the history of pain. If we are wise what is born of that pain matures into the promise of a better world. Because we learn that we can no longer afford the mistakes of the past. -Gkar
