Does anyone have any thoughts or experience installing a Goldwing engine in a Q-2 or Tri-Q? I have a couple of engines available to me and I may be able to purchase a Q-2.

Half a year since you asked, I can not say I have true reliable info but a friend who is both into building planes and has his motorcycle repair business on an airport here does not like the idea of a Gold wing on a plane.
To me who builds both road race cars and aircraft as well as rides trackdays on bikes, I like the idea of the Wing engine but I do not have hands of experience with them.
I am told they are heavy but what is that related too?

Thank you for your reply. Since I posted I have done more research. It seams like the problem with a Goldwing is that trans is integral with the engine adding a large percentage of the weight. A few have fabricated an adapter plate for the trans, but is it really worth the trouble?
Thanks again.

To me the transmission would be a non issue. Yes it has to go but I have been interested if the drive to it would have value as a drop gear or for direction reversal.
An adapter would need to be made to utilize an external reduction drive as well.

They were my thoughts too, but the other forums thought that the weight disadvantage wouldn’t be worth it. I have to do some more research. Let me know what you come up with and I will do the same for you.

You thinking of an 1800?
