In this video, I am putting all of the pieces of my main tank jig together. Not much to report here as I think the video speaks for itself. However, I was pleased to see that my LAST-A foam looked like it would hold its shape nicely in the mold!
Of course, now that I have it all together, I see a much better way of constructing one of these.
I plan to write an article about this in my first issue of Q-talk. I may even draw some templates for others to use if I get the time. So stay tuned! As always I invite your feedback below, or in the forums!
As you may remember, I bought my Tri-Q200 pretty well finished, except that main tank had leaked, and it had been torn out.
The seller had bought the foam to re-do the tank, but I used a little of it to build a hot-box for resin and found that it was very flakey! Even tho the resin bonded to the foam, the foam just flaked, allowing the glass to peel off. Glad I didn't use it!
I've decided to delay my tank until you write your article! Really appreciate it. I guess I'll order some last-a-foam in the meantime. Pretty well given up the idea of aluminum tank.
I have also abandoned the idea of directly viewable fuel gauges - I'm just too concerned about them breaking in an accident and spilling fuel into cockpit - scary thought! I hope I've gotten conservative enough in my old age not to do the stupid things I did as a young pilot.

- The Right Choice. . .
Hey Mike,
Thanks for checking in. I will probably need to write a multiple part article about putting this all together. I think you made the right choice by not going with aluminum.
The "per plans" tanks will work just fine, you just need to find a way to ensure good flox squeeze out all the way around.
I also like the LAST-A foam. It's supposed to fuel proof as well.
My first issue of Q-talk will be coming out at the end of the month.
